The Central Election Commission is actively working to develop a mechanism that will maximize the involvement of Ukrainian citizens abroad in the upcoming elections. Moreover, such a mechanism has already been practically agreed upon. This was stated in an interview with Komersant ukrainskyi by the Head of the Central Election Commission, Oleg Didenko.

According to the official, there are already some developments, as the CEC began working on them in April 2022.

“Back in April 2022, the first election group was created, which prepared a package of proposals to the Verkhovna Rada. We were hoping for a quick victory and elections as planned. However, this did not happen. Therefore, we are now working deeper and more thoroughly on these issues,”

– mr. Didenko said.

Thus, the commission has set up a working group that deals with the issue of voting abroad. It was tasked with exploring different approaches and finding the best solution. The commission worked as inclusively as possible, involving MPs, government agencies, NGOs and international partners.

Three main options were considered: electronic voting, postal voting, and extended voting (creation of additional polling stations outside embassies and consulates). Electronic and postal voting were rejected as too risky for Ukraine at this point. Instead , we are inclined to the proposal to expand the network of polling stations. That is, to provide for the possibility of establishing additional polling stations outside of embassies and consulates.
