In Ukraine, vegetable prices have risen significantly in just one year. The rise in price is especially evident in the case of cabbage (it costs 46.60 UAH per kg and has risen by 267.4% since April 2024) and carrots (a kilogram in 2025 is bought for an average of 36.90 UAH, which means that the vegetable has soared in price by 205.9%), [komesant] reports, citing data from the State Statistics Service.

According to the report, average consumer prices for food in Ukraine in April 2025 increased significantly compared to April 2024. Some categories of food products have risen in price by tens or even hundreds of percent. A comparative analysis shows that dairy products, vegetables, eggs, and oil have hit Ukrainians’ wallets the hardest.

Cabbage and apples showed the biggest growth

The price of beets increased by 41.9%, from UAH 18.80 per kg to UAH 25.30. Potatoes went up by 16.8% and now cost 26.20 UAH per kg. Apples went up by 61.6% and now cost 39.7 UAH per kilogram.

The rise in price, according to economic experts, may be due to a low harvest in 2024, rising storage and logistics costs, and difficulty importing vegetables during the war.

Eggs, butter, and oil are in the top of the price increase

The price of eggs increased by 73.3% (from UAH 33.5 to UAH 58 per dozen). The price of butter rose by 32%. From now on, 200 grams of butter can be bought for an average of UAH 104.9. The price of sunflower oil increased by 40.5%. A liter of this food product now costs UAH 81.3.

These figures can be explained by rising prices for feed and energy, as well as a decrease in production due to damage to the infrastructure of agricultural enterprises.

Rising prices for meat and dairy products

Meat prices also increased: beef by 14.3%, pork by 12.7%, and poultry by 3.4%. Milk went up by 16.3%, sour cream by 16.0%, and soft fat cheeses by 14.4%.

Bread and cereals: slower growth in prices, but steady growth

Bread made from high-grade flour rose by 41.2%, rye-wheat bread by 16.6%. Buckwheat was the most expensive cereal, up 44.3%, and now a kilogram of it costs 38 UAH.

Only a few items became cheaper

The only products that have fallen in price are infant formula (down 2.4% and now costing UAH 141.4 per 250 grams) and lard (down 4.3% and now costing UAH 160.4 per kg),

In general, prices have risen for almost all basic necessities. High inflation, logistical, energy and climate problems pose a serious challenge to food security in Ukraine.

Prices continue to rise, and analysts predict that some product groups will see further increases in the summer season of 2025.
