Price collusion in the egg market: AMCU investigates the actions of two agricultural holdings

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has begun consideration of a case regarding a possible violation of the legislation on economic competition by the two largest players in the chicken egg market – the groups of companies “Avangard” and “Ovostar Union”. The reason was signs of concerted anti-competitive actions in the formation of egg prices. This was reported by the press service of the department,

As reported by the AMCU, the analysis of the situation has been ongoing since the fall of last year.

“The committee has begun investigating the reasons for the increase in prices for chicken eggs, in particular, in October 2024,” the official statement said.

Already in April 2025, the committee sent recommendations to the ten largest egg producers and sellers to prevent possible violations of antimonopoly legislation. However, further monitoring and analysis of the economic indicators of individual companies revealed potentially concerted behavior in the market.

“At the same time, during the conducted study, the AMCU analyzed in detail the economic indicators of the largest producers and identified signs of violation of competition legislation in their actions,” the department reported.

Therefore, at the end of May 2025, the Committee began considering the case on the grounds that the Avangard group of companies and the Ovostar Union group of companies violated the Law of Ukraine “On Protection of Economic Competition” in the form of anti-competitive concerted actions in forming the price of chicken eggs without objective reasons for this in the market.

It should be noted that the relevant groups of companies are the largest producers of chicken eggs in shell and, accordingly, have an influence on this market.
