This night, Ukrainians will be able to see a unique “black moon”
31 December 00:13From December 30 to 31, the world’s inhabitants will be able to admire a unique phenomenon – a “black moon” will appear in the sky above our planet. This is reported by EarthSky, Komersant ukrainskyi informs
According to scientists, a “blue moon” is observed when two full moons occur in one calendar. In turn, a “black moon” is characterized by the presence of two new moons within the same month.
One of these new moons will occur on December 30, and for residents of Europe, Africa, and Asia, this event will occur on December 31.
As with any new moon, the “black moon” will be invisible, because during this period the Moon is as close to the Sun as possible in its orbit.
However, this is the optimal moment for astronomical observations, as the absence of moonlight allows you to see stars and other objects in the night sky more clearly.
The previous seasonal new moon, called a “black moon,” occurred in May 2023, and the next one is expected in August 2025.
The last lunar “black moon” was observed in April 2022, and the next such event is scheduled for August 31, 2027.
