Trump announces a deadline for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine

The United States has a certain deadline for achieving peace between Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by US President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Trump said that Kyiv and Moscow “both want peace, but they have to come to the negotiating table.”

“We’ve been waiting a long time. They have to come to the table. And I think we will get peace,” Trump said.

The US president emphasized that “5,000 young people” are dying every week in Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine and need to be saved, and he “doesn’t like that it’s taking so long.”

“But I think they both (Zelensky and Putin – ed.) want to make peace. I believe in it. There is a lot of hatred between them, a lot of strong dislike, a lot of distrust. But I think we’re going to do it, I hope we’re going to do it for the sake of the many young people who are dying,” Trump said.

He also noted that he has “his own deadline” by which peace between Ukraine and Russia must be achieved.

“We have a deadline. And after that, our attitude (to a peaceful settlement – ed.) will be completely different, but I think we have a very good chance of doing it (reaching peace – ed.),” Trump emphasized.

Earlier, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said that Ukraine and Russia must agree to the peace proposal proposed by America, otherwise Washington will withdraw from the negotiations.

Later, Trump himself said something similar: according to him, Russia is ready to conclude a peace agreement and “wants to end the war,” and now it is time to reach an agreement with Ukraine.

“I thought it would be easier to negotiate with [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy, but it turned out to be more difficult,” he said.
