US President Donald Trump has said that the US will sell a “golden card” to wealthy foreigners, which will give them the right to live and work in the US and provide for future citizenship. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to CNN.

“The card will cost about $5 million.

“We will sell a gold card. You have a green card, and this is a gold card. We will price this card at about $5 million, and it will give you the privileges of a green card, and it will also be a path to citizenship. And wealthy people will come to our country by buying this card,”

– trump said.

Commerce Secretary Howard Luthnick said the card would replace the government’s EB-5 investment visa program for immigrants.

“They will, of course, be vetted to make sure that they are great world-class citizens,”

– the official said.

Trump said that the sale of the cards would begin in about two weeks and suggested that millions of them could be sold.

“From a legal standpoint, it’s perfectly legal,”

– he added.

Asked whether he would consider selling the cards to Russian oligarchs, Trump replied:

“Yeah, maybe. I know some Russian oligarchs who are very nice people.”

Green Card

Until now, the main immigration mechanism used in the United States was the Green Card, an unofficial name for the document officially known as the United States Permanent Resident Card. This important immigration document grants its holder the status of a permanent resident of the United States with the right to reside and work in the United States permanently. A green card is usually issued for 10 years, after which it needs to be renewed.

Green card holders are entitled to permanent residence, employment, social benefits, and protection under U.S. law. After 5 years of permanent residence (or 3 years for spouses of US citizens), green card holders can apply for US citizenship. There are various ways to obtain a green card: through family sponsorship from US citizen relatives, through a US employer, through the Diversity Visa Lottery program, as refugees and asylees, or through the Investor Based Investor Program. Green card holders must comply with US laws, file a tax return every year, report changes of address, and renew their card upon expiration.

Obtaining a green card is an important step for immigrants on their way to permanent residence in the United States and eventual U.S. citizenship.
