South Korean President Yun Seok-yol, held a telephone conversation with the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump. The politicians discussed the participation of the DPRK on the side of Russia in the war with Ukraine, reports Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the Yonhap news agency.

The heads of the two countries agreed to meet in person to continue cooperation between their states. During the conversation, they discussed security, economic and global issues. Yoon Seok-yeol expressed his hope to develop the US-South Korea alliance as a close partnership. In addition, Trump expressed his desire to cooperate with South Korea in shipbuilding.

The situation in North Korea and the Ukrainian crisis, which both leaders are concerned about, were also discussed. The denuclearization of North Korea and the war in Ukraine, in which North Korean troops intervened in support of Russia, was also an important issue discussed by the politicians.

Experts say that against this backdrop, Trump may try to renegotiate the defense cost-sharing agreement with South Korea, potentially increasing Seoul’s share of the cost of stationing 28,500 U.S. troops here.
