A secret witness, an eyeglasses seller, a suspect’s chair: Farion’s case is getting more detailed
2 April 16:11
on April 2, the Shevchenkivsky District Court of Lviv continued to consider the case of the murder of Irina Farion. Important evidence in the case was presented at the hearing, Komersant ukrainskyi reports, citing UNN.
At the hearing, the court watched video footage from surveillance cameras located near the crime scene. One of the videos shows the suspect sitting on a bench. However, after watching the video, Zinchenko himself drew attention to the discrepancy, noting that according to some witnesses, the suspect was sitting on a chair, not a bench.
Also, during the hearing, a secret witness spoke about the first place where he saw the suspect in Farion’s murder.
The court also considered photographs from witnesses who saw Zinchenko on different days. In these photos, he was identified by his characteristic appearance: a black panama hat and sunglasses with white frames.
“This photo was later used for a portrait examination, which confirmed that it was the same person,”
– the prosecutor said in court.
An additional proof of Zinchenko’s identification was the testimony of the seller who sold him the glasses and confirmed the fact of purchase. The witness provided a photo of his correspondence with the suspect.
In addition to reviewing the evidence, Zinchenko’s lawyer stated that his client had received threats on social media. He also reported the change of the suspect’s cellmates and demanded that security measures be strengthened, including placing Zinchenko in solitary confinement.

The murder of Iryna Farion and its investigation
on July 19, 2024, a political activist and professor at Lviv Polytechnic, Iryna Farion, was killed by a direct shot to the head on Masaryk Street in Lviv.
Currently, the main suspect in the murder is Vyacheslav Zinchenko, an 18-year-old resident of Dnipro, who was detained by police and will be held in a pre-trial detention center until at least November 17. The young man told the media that he did not kill Farion. Instead, he stated that his arrest was desirable for him, as he was being hunted by Russian special services and radicalized individuals on the loose.
A petition was registered on the government’s website to posthumously award the linguist the title of Hero of Ukraine. The petition received the required number of votes, and now it is to be considered by the Ministry of Education and Science, whose head Farion called an ignoramus.
