Election day is approaching, and the fight is starting: Poroshenko was reminded of Sevmorzavod – he responded

21 January 15:49

There is another betrayal on social media and in some “respectable” publications, but its heroes are not new: Petro Poroshenko, Andriy Portnov and, of course, unnamed sources in law enforcement. This is what Komersant ukrainskyi investigated.

What Petro Poroshenko is accused of

The Telegram channel “Trukha”, the UNIAN agency, as well as some other publications, spread a report the day before that a new episode of treason was being investigated in the criminal proceedings against Petro Poroshenko. UNIAN, as a serious publication, cited Law and Business.

“According to law enforcement sources cited by journalists, the new episodes of treason against Poroshenko involve the payment of a significant amount of taxes to the Russian budget. As well as the fact of recognizing Sevastopol as a Russian city, where Sevmorzavod, owned by Poroshenko’s company, is located,” the agency writes.

At the same time, the accusation of recognizing Sevastopol as a Russian city is apparently supported by the following quote: “After the annexation of Crimea by Russia, the Sevastopol Naval Shipyard, which belonged to Mr. Poroshenko, entered into correspondence with the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. In this correspondence, the plant and its manager (Poroshenko’s business partner – editor’s note) Konstantin Kartoshkin stated that Sevastopol is a Russian city of federal significance, and also provided relevant information on the financial and economic indicators of the enterprise to the Russian authority.”

Interestingly, when citing this fact, Law and Business refers to an October 2015 article in the UNIAN news agency. This is a kind of circular citation.

In that old publication, which for some reason is supposed to confirm the new facts, the former deputy head of the Presidential Administration, Andriy Portnov, reminded Petro Poroshenko what a person from his team had said.

Petro Poroshenko’s response

First, European Solidarity named those who, in their opinion, are the customers and executors.

“The media resources of Portnov, Kolomoisky-Medvedchuk, and a number of telegram channels controlled by Yermak’s office simultaneously spread another fake about our team, this time about the Sevmorzavod in Sevastopol, which once belonged to Poroshenko,” the political force said in a statement.

Secondly, they added a bit of politics. How could they not?

“The information noise of recent weeks, together with the information we receive from closed sources, leaves no doubt that the authorities, feeling stuck in a dead end of numerous problems, are preparing a powerful attack on the unity within the country,” is another quote from the statement.

As for the content of the accusations, we would also like to quote one of the quotes from a Facebook post by European Solidarity MP Viktoria Syumar. Commenting on a report by Trukh’s TV channel that “Russia allowed the Sevmorzavod, which belonged to Poroshenko, to operate in occupied Sevastopol, and in exchange, Petro Oleksiyovych had the city recognized as Russian and paid taxes to Russia,” she wrote:

“Fact: Sevmorzavod did not and could not pay taxes to the Russian Federation, as it did not re-register as required by the occupation authorities as a ‘Russian enterprise’. the Russians gave time to re-register all businesses in the occupied Crimea until December 31, 2014. Since the plant refused to do so, the Russian authorities nationalized it as one of the first Ukrainian enterprises in Sevastopol two months later, at the end of February 2015. There is a lot of evidence of this on the Internet, including from Radio Liberty.Crimea. Where can you pay taxes if you are not registered as a business entity?” the MP asks rhetorically.

What did the media report back then?

Let’s turn to LB, which reported on September 12, 2014, that Petro Poroshenko had put the Sevastopol Shipyard up for sale.

on March 1, 2015, it was reported that the government of Sevastopol had nationalized the Sevastopol Shipyard, owned by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and 12 other enterprises in the city that refused to re-register under Russian law. The relevant resolution was adopted on February 28 by the city government.

In total, as Kryminform wrote at the time, 13 enterprises were subject to the so-called “nationalization”: PJSC Sevmorzavod, SRC Sevmorsudoremont, SE Vnesheconomservice, JV Korabel, Sevmordorstroy, Sevmorverf, Sevmormash, Nova Era, Inkermebli, Sevmorremo, Pivden Sevmoservice, SE Sevmorenergo, and SE Design Bureau of Radio Communications.

And on September 11 of the same year, it was reported that the Sevastopol Shipyard had become a branch of the Russian shipyard Zvezdochka.

After that, according to the search results on the LB website, Sevmorzavod was no longer mentioned. Some other publications apparently have their own criteria for searching for topics and publications.

And finally, about the pleasant things. On September 13, the Sevmorzavod shipyard, located at the Russian Black Sea Fleet naval base in Sevastopol, was hit by a missile attack. The attack hit the landing ship Minsk and the submarine Rostov-on-Don, which were undergoing maintenance in dry docks.
