A court has closed the case against MP Sofia Fedina and volunteer Marusya Zvirobiy, who were accused of making death threats against the President of Ukraine. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi, citing data from the court registry.

The reason for this is the expiration of the statute of limitations on prosecution. The prosecutor did not object to the release of the accused from punishment.

It is worth noting that the victim, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, was not present at the court hearing. The court quoted a letter stating that he could not come to the courtroom due to the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Sofia Fedina’s party colleague, EU MP Iryna Herashchenko, said she would demand an apology to both women. The politician wrote about this in her Telegram channel.

“For five years, the absurd trial of military servicewoman Marusya Zvirobiy and volunteer and MP Sofia Fedina has been going on, following a lawsuit filed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who saw threats in the words ‘they are shooting at the front line,’ ‘grenades are exploding there,’ and ‘someone thinks he is immortal. For five years, the girls were threatened with criminal liability, dragged through the courts, and discredited in the media controlled by Bankova. Our team is waiting for an apology to the woman, the warrior Marusya Zvirobiy, and our colleague Sofia Fedina for the politically motivated case and years of slander,” Gerashchenko wrote.

What preceded it

on October 26, 2019, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Zolote, Luhansk region. There, he argued with one of the volunteers and said that he was “not a sucker.”

The president’s behavior was criticized by MP Sofia Fedyna and volunteer Marusya Zvirobiy. The women recorded a joint video on Facebook. In it, Fedyna and Zvirobiy said the following:

“You should go there more often, you will get blown up there, someone will blow you up there. A grenade can accidentally explode there, there is shelling there.”

In early February 2020, Sofia Fedina was notified of suspicion in an article about a threat to assassinate the President of Ukraine. The politician faced up to 5 years in prison. The case was considered by the Galician District Court of Lviv, the first hearing of which took place on August 12, 2020.

In early December 2024, the defendants’ lawyers filed a motion to release them from criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations and to close the criminal proceedings.
