The court sent Shevchenko into custody

15 November 22:28

The Pecherskyy district court of Kiev has sent an incumbent MP suspected of treason to custody without the alternative of bail. About it reports Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the GBI.

We are talking about the MP Yevgeny Shevchenko, which yesterday was announced on suspicion. The Deputy was accused of damaging the defense capability and information security of Ukraine.

For treason is provided up to 15 years imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Suspilne reports that at the beginning of the meeting Shevchenko said that he considers it “some kind of misunderstanding”. He also expects “intellectual discussion” and that there should be a “civilized process” in the consideration of this case.

The lawmaker’s lawyer said that they did not have time to “properly execute” the written objection because the previous day “searches continued late into the night” and petitioned to postpone the hearing to November 16. The judge granted the motion in part and recessed the trial until 3:00 p.m.

After the break, the decision to keep Shevchenko in custody until January 11, 2025 was announced. Lawyers of the MP refused to comment on the court’s decision. Shevchenko himself also did not comment on it.
