It became known how many Ukrainians have temporary protection in EU countries

As of February 28, more than 4.3 million people who fled Ukraine as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion had temporary protection status in the EU.
These data were released on April 10 by Eurostat, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
Among the EU countries, Germany (1,177,800 people; 27.3% of the total), Poland (994,790; 23.1%) and the Czech Republic (397,750; 9.2%) received the largest number of recipients of temporary protection status from Ukraine.
Compared to the end of January 2025, the total number of persons with temporary protection in the EU at the end of February increased by 21,015 (0.5%) and amounted to 4,306,800.
The largest absolute increase in the number of temporary protection recipients was observed in Germany (7,550; 0.6%), the Czech Republic (2,765; 0.7%) and Spain (1,885; 0.8%). At the same time, a decrease in their number was recorded in Austria (-430; -0.5%) and France (-410; -0.7%).
As of February 28, more than 98.4% of temporary protection recipients in the EU were Ukrainian citizens. Almost half of the recipients were adult women (44.7%), children made up almost a third (31.8%), and adult men 23.4% of the total.
After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU activated the so-called Temporary Protection Directive, which granted Ukrainian refugees the right to stay legally in the EU and receive basic social services, including health care, education, and the right to employment.
In June, the EU Council decided to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until March 4, 2026.
