SBU investigators reveal how many cases related to Russia’s armed aggression are being investigated

As of today, SBU investigators are conducting investigations in more than 90,000 criminal proceedings related to Russia’s open armed aggression against Ukraine.

This was stated by SBU Deputy Head Serhii Naumiuk at the United for Justice high-level international conference. United for Survivors, dedicated to coordinating efforts to investigate war crimes and support victims, Ukrinform reports , "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, the SBU conducted a pre-trial investigation of more than 170,000 criminal offenses related to Russia’s open military aggression against Ukraine.

“As of today, SBU investigators are investigating more than 90,000 criminal proceedings. This is more than 85% of the total number of criminal offenses related to the Russian aggression being investigated by all law enforcement agencies of Ukraine,” noted Naumyuk.

The SBU Deputy Head said that the pre-trial investigations, which are structured by the nature of violations of international humanitarian law, include preparation for planning, launching and conducting an aggressive war, ill-treatment of prisoners of war, torture, and extrajudicial executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war. In addition, the use of munitions prohibited by international law, chemical weapons, etc.

Naumyuk also noted that along with the classical sources of evidence provided for by the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, SBU investigators are introducing the latest technologies and tools, including face recognition, accumulation of information processing and analysis, geolocation, and face identification, to improve the efficiency of pre-trial investigation of crimes related to Russian aggression against Ukraine.

These software products of the Ukrainian Defense Forces allow establishing data on the enemy, enemy units, radio intercepts, satellite reconnaissance, geospatial data, and recording of audio and video materials.
