More than 70 deaths from influenza and ARVI have already been recorded during the 2024/2025 epidemic season.
Director of the Center for Public Health Mykhailo Rosada said this on television, Komersant ukrainskyi reports citing Ukrinform.

“While last season there were 58 fatalities for the entire season, this season 73 cases were recorded,” Rosada said.

At the same time, he emphasized that despite the fact that the number of fatalities is higher compared to the last epidemic season, the intensive incidence rates have not been exceeded.

“There are no extremely special signs of this virus,” Rosada said.

According to the Director General of the Center for Public Health, the incidence of influenza and ARVI has been declining for the second week in a row.

“Although the epidemic threshold has not yet been exceeded, there is a clear downward trend in the incidence,” Rosada said.

He reminded that influenza is a serious infectious disease with a severe course, especially for people with chronic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, and weakened immunity. Therefore, influenza can be severe and lead to death.

According to him, this year influenza A and B are circulating. In parallel with influenza viruses, other acute respiratory viruses, such as respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, and parainfluenza, are circulating during the epidemic season.

He noted that the peculiarity of the current epidemic season is that the influenza virus has replaced Covid-19, and it is the influenza virus that causes the most severe clinical course of the disease.

According to Rosada, the high-level epidemic threshold has been exceeded in Zhytomyr and Cherkasy regions, while other regions have exceeded the medium and low-level epidemic thresholds.

According to the Center for Public Health, 240,340 people fell ill with influenza and ARVI in the country during the week of March 10-16, including 124,960 children.
