It became known how many candidates for the position of BES Director passed the test (list)

On Friday, March 14, the general skills of candidates for the position of Director of the Bureau of Economic Security (BES) were tested. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the official Facebook page of the Commission for the Selection of the Director of the BES of Ukraine.

All registered candidates – 33 of them – appeared for the test.

However, only candidates with at least 107 points will be allowed to move on to the next stage of the competition.

As can be seen from the lists published by the commission, there are currently 16 such candidates, as 17 of the applicants for the position failed to score the minimum number of competitive points.

It should be noted that the general skills test consisted of three blocks: verbal, abstract and logical, and mathematical. For each candidate, the automated system generated a unique test of ninety questions (thirty questions from each block). The maximum number of points that a candidate could score based on the results of one testing block was one hundred and forty-five.

The final result of the general skills test is the average score obtained by the candidate based on the results of the three test blocks.

According to Donatas Malaskevicius, a member of the Selection Committee, the future director of the BES should be prepared to

• resist external pressure from politicians, business and criminal groups;
• make difficult decisions that will have a significant impact;
• create a culture of trust and mutual respect in the organization;
• integrate innovations to increase efficiency in the fight against economic crime.

“The candidate should ask himself whether he is strong enough to withstand the pressure of politicians with opaque interests, businessmen and criminals pretending to be businessmen. In a field where big money is involved, interests are uncompromising. For someone, your decision will be not only a matter of more or less profit, but also an existential issue,” Malaskevicius said.

Stages of the selection of the Director of the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine

• Acceptance of documents. Applicants submit a package of documents in accordance with the requirements of the announcement by January 25, 2025.
• Review of documents by the Commission. The Commission checks the submitted documents for compliance with the requirements and decides on the admission of candidates to the competition.
• Testing of cognitive skills. Verbal, abstract, logical and mathematical skills are tested.
• Testing for knowledge of legislation. The knowledge of laws required for civil servants is assessed.
• Practical tasks. Solving practical cases that simulate work situations to assess the practical application of knowledge in the fields of law and economics, leadership and management skills.
• Personality testing. Assessment of the psychological profile of candidates.
• Integrity check. Analysis of information about the candidates for compliance with the criteria of ethics and integrity.
• Final interview. Assessment of candidates’ compliance with the criteria of integrity and professional competence.
• Determination of the winner(s). After analyzing the results of all stages, one or two winners are selected.

According to the Law, who can apply for the position of the BES Director?

• citizen of Ukraine;
• at least 35 years old
• has a higher legal and/or economic education with a degree not lower than a specialist (master’s)
• has at least 10 years of work experience in the specialty;
• has at least 5 years of experience in managerial positions in public authorities, enterprises, institutions, organizations, regardless of ownership;
• is fluent in the state language;
• be of high integrity and competence;
• is capable of performing the relevant official duties by virtue of his/her business and moral qualities, educational and professional level, and health condition.
