It became known when the main holiday tree of Ukraine will be opened in Kyiv
27 November 11:22The Christmas tree will be set up on December 2 at St. Sophia Square at the expense of patrons. The grand opening is traditionally scheduled for St. Nicholas Day, December 6. This was announced by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
This decision was made by the Kyiv Defense Council after consultations with the military.
Klitschko said that the main Christmas tree of Ukraine, as in previous years, will shine on St. Sophia Square. It will be installed at the expense of patrons.
“The Kyiv Defense Council supported the initiative of GLOBAL-DECOR LLC, which offered to arrange the Christmas tree on its own. “GLOBAL-DECOR will take care of the installation and dismantling, as well as the maintenance of the Christmas tree. We will not allocate any funds from the city budget,” said the mayor.
“There will be no mass gatherings, fairs or entertainment due to martial law. A photo zone with qr-codes of charitable foundations and several booths for the sale of souvenirs will be set up near the tree.
What will the Christmas tree look like on Sofiyivska Square?
Igor Dobrutsky, president of Folk Ukraine, the company that organizes the New Year’s Eve celebration on St. Sophia Square, spoke about the details of the 2024-2025 Christmas tree.
According to him, the Christmas tree will be 12-15 meters high and will be set up by December 6, which is the traditional date. This year it is planned to be white, symbolizing a white canvas, life from scratch. The tree will be decorated with sky-blue garlands to symbolize the clear and safe sky over Ukraine.
“And according to our very first idea, the ‘new history of the country’ would be written on a white canvas by children from schools from different parts of the country,” Dobrutsky explained.
At the photo zone, it will be possible to donate to charities using a QR code. Everyone will be able to take a heart at the photo zone and transfer money to charity.
Where will the New Year and Christmas events take place?
Instead of open locations, the main festive events are planned in municipal cultural institutions, such as
- theaters – performances and special New Year’s programs;
- museums – Christmas exhibitions and master classes;
- libraries – literary readings and children’s performances.
Such events will be held in compliance with the requirements and restrictions in force during martial law and taking into account the current security situation
