US imposes sanctions for deportation of Ukrainian children
5 December 07:57The U.S. State Department has announced visa restrictions on five Russian officials for their involvement in the forced deportation, displacement, and imprisonment of Ukrainian children. This is reported on the State Department’s website, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
It is noted that many children have had their identities changed and their origins concealed, have been subjected to pro-Russian ideologization and militarization, or have been adopted by Russian families.
“The Kremlin authorities have created many obstacles to the return of these children to Ukraine. Russia’s continued disregard for its international legal obligations to report the whereabouts of these children makes it nearly impossible for them to return safely,” the State Department said.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has illegally removed thousands of Ukrainian children. Their deportation is “systematic” and “intentional,” the State Department emphasizes.
The United States will continue to help bring those responsible for such crimes to justice and help Ukraine return the deported children, the State Department said in a statement.
As a reminder, according to a study by the Yale University School of Public Health (USA), Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s planes and funds were used in a program to remove children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, deprive them of their Ukrainian identity and transfer them to Russian families.
