The United States continues to provide military assistance to Ukraine in accordance with decisions previously approved by Congress. This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a speech at the State Department on May 20, 2025, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to him, there has been no suspension of arms supplies. Moreover, the United States is actively cooperating with NATO countries in this area.

When asked about the readiness of President Donald Trump’s administration to pass a new bill on military assistance to Ukraine, Rubio said that this issue was not in his competence. At the same time, he assured that all the support mechanisms already approved by Congress remain in place and are being implemented.

Rubio also noted that Ukraine’s greatest need at the moment is air defense systems, in particular Patriot systems. At the same time, the United States has limited resources:

“Frankly, we just don’t have enough of them,” he said.

The secretary of state added that the United States is actively negotiating with NATO allies, as some of them have Patriot batteries that could potentially be transferred to Ukraine. This includes the possibility of protecting the airspace over Kyiv and other cities.

However, none of the countries has shown any willingness to give up their own systems, and the production of new ones in the United States lags behind the needs.

Rubio summarized that Washington supports the initiative to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and continues to work on this issue with international partners.

As of May 2025, the United States remains Ukraine’s key partner in military assistance. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the United States has provided Ukraine with more than $66.5 billion in military assistance, including weapons, equipment, training, and intelligence.
