Law enforcers have completed a pre-trial investigation against former MP Yevhen Muraiev. He is accused of involvement in subversive activities in favour of Russia. This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, Kommersant Ukrainian reports
According to the investigation, Muraiev used the Nash TV channel under his control to massively spread Kremlin propaganda in Ukraine. In this way, he assisted Russia in numerous attempts to destabilise the socio-political situation in Ukraine on the eve of a full-scale invasion.
In early February 2022, the NSDC imposed sanctions on Muraiev’s TV channel.
The former MP is accused under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- ч. 1 of Article 111 – high treason;
- ч. 1 of Article 161 – violation of the equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, region, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds.
The indictment against Muraiev has already been sent to court. He faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
It should be noted that after the outbreak of the war, Muraiev disappeared from the information space, and it is unknown where he is now.
What is known about Muraiev’s case
In the autumn of 2022, SBU officers conducted a series of searches at Muraiev’s residences and offices. They then found cash in Russian rubles, weapons, as well as computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of illegal actions.
Yevhen Muraiev ㅡ Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the 7th and 8th convocations, former head of the Zmiiv District State Administration in Kharkiv Region, owner of the pro-Russian TV channel NASH, was the owner of the TV channel NewsOne.
In 2019, he ran for the presidency of Ukraine from the Nashi party, but withdrew from the CEC in favour of Oleksandr Vilkul. In the same year, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada from the Opposition Bloc party as a non-partisan.
on 14 June 2022, the Eighth Court of Appeal of Lviv banned the Nashi party. The lawsuit was filed by the Ministry of Justice, which, together with the National Security and Defence Council, considers Nashi to be pro-Russian.
