Today’s massive Russian air attack on Ukrainian cities and energy facilities may turn out to be a deliberate distraction operation. This opinion was expressed in an exclusive commentary to Komersant ukrainskyi
The expert noted that today’s shelling did not come as a surprise and pointed to several possible reasons for the attack.
“This could be an attempt to distract Ukrainian forces and our leadership from other important actions that need to be taken in the context of certain military operations, including those unfolding in the south. russia also wants to force us to stop the manoeuvres that are taking place on its territory,”
– he suggested.
The expert also does not rule out that the current attack may be aimed primarily at the Russian public to divert their attention from the events in Kursk region.
“This may be a distraction of the Russian public, in terms of Russian propaganda, from what is happening in Russia, in particular from the events in Kursk and the attacks that Ukraine is carrying out on the territory of Russia.”
Moreover, it may even distract our Western partners from providing Ukraine with new F-16s, the expert believes.
“And perhaps this is a distraction from Ukraine starting to receive F-16s. To show that Ukraine does not have the capabilities to shoot down all these objects that fly into Ukrainian airspace,” he said,

Is it possible to hit the GTS?
The political analyst believes that Russia may launch missile attacks on the Ukrainian gas transmission system if the gas transit contract is not extended.
“This option is not excluded. If the contract is not extended, it is likely to happen. This will allow Russia to launch more massive attacks on the territory of Ukraine, because it will not have to worry about gas or oil pipelines being cut off somewhere,”
– zhelikhovsky suggested.
