Ukraine will limit power supply today

11 February 07:29

On Tuesday, February 11, power restrictions for industry and business will be applied. This was reported in Ukrenergo, informs Komersant ukrainskyi

The restrictions will be in effect from 07:00 – 11:00 and from 15:00 – 21:00.

The reason for the temporary introduction of restrictions – damage to power facilities during previous Russian missile and drone attacks,

“Power engineers are working to put the equipment damaged by the enemy back into operation as soon as possible. Shutdowns for household consumers are not predicted yet,” Ukrenergo said.

However, they warn that the time of application and the scope of restrictions during the day may change. Follow the information on the website or official pages of the oblenergo of your region in social networks.

To avoid the problem of power shortages, you should follow simple recommendations:

  1. Do not turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time during morning (07:00-10:00) and evening (17:00-22:00) peak hours. This will reduce the load on the system and help avoid outages.
  2. Turn off unnecessary lights at home and at work. This will reduce your energy consumption and save you money.
  3. Unplug appliances you don’t use. Even in standby mode, appliances continue to consume electricity.
  4. Boil only the amount of water you need in an electric kettle. This is faster, more economical and healthier.
  5. Use high-powered appliances during low-use hours (from 23:00 to 07:00).
  6. Do not leave devices charging for longer than necessary. This will prolong battery life and reduce energy consumption.
  7. Install energy-saving LED lights. They consume significantly less electricity than conventional incandescent bulbs.

Situation in the Ukrainian energy sector

on March 22, 2024, Russia resumed attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector, carrying out one of the most massive shelling for the entire time of full-scale war. In particular, the Dneproges and other Ukrainian energy facilities were hit. Since then, Russia has regularly shelled Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities.

For example, the Russians destroyed Tripilska and Zmievska TPPs, as a result of which Centrenergo lost 100% of its generation. Also, 5 out of 6 thermal power plants of DTEK were severely damaged.

After that, blackouts started again in Ukraine, Ukrenergo introduced blackout schedules, and the government raised the electricity tariff by 60% at once.

At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers intends to build two new units at Khmelnytskyy NPP and has already received approval from the relevant parliamentary committee. The Razumkov Center criticized these plans, but some experts believe that only traitors or scoundrels are against the construction of nuclear power plants today.

Russia launched another massive attack on the Ukrainian energy sector on 26 August. This time they hit distribution systems and electricity distribution systems, and also hit the Kiev hydroelectric power plant.

Russia carried out the most massive shelling of Ukraine on November 17, 2024, firing 127 cruise, ballistic and supersonic missiles and 109 attack drones. DTEK reported serious damage at their thermal power plants.

Now some experts believe the blackouts could continue until spring. And the Center for countering disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine voiced the worst scenario, which provides for a blackout of up to 20 hours a day.
