Today is Trump’s birthday: 50 US states will greet him with protests

Today, on June 14, US President Donald Trump will hold a military parade in Washington and celebrate his birthday. Millions of Americans have announced nationwide protests against what they see as his authoritarian style of government. The No Kings movement opposes the excessive concentration of power in the hands of the president. Axios writes about it, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

The large-scale protest aims to “overshadow” Trump’s multimillion-dollar military parade in Washington. The actions under the slogan “No Kings” are scheduled to take place simultaneously in more than 1,800 cities in all 50 states, as well as abroad.

“Donald Trump wants tanks in the streets and a televised show of dominance for his birthday. A spectacle designed to look like strength. But real power is not staged in Washington. It rises everywhere,” the event’s website says.

Trump himself has warned that any protests during Saturday’s parade will be met with “very great force.” However, the organizers are deliberately avoiding Washington to avoid a direct confrontation.

“The choice to hold ‘No Kings’ events in every city except Washington, D.C., is a deliberate decision to focus on contrast and to prevent the Trump administration from stirring up conflict and then focusing on it,” the organizers explained.

Although clashes, arrests, looting, and car arsons have occurred at previous protests in several cities, No Kings organizers promise that this time the rallies will be peaceful.

“June 14 is our chance to reflect the absurdity of the MAGA regime and the clowns who lead it,” the organization’s website says.

In addition, the Women’s March is separately organizing protests called “Kick the Clowns Out.”

According to organizers, at least 3.5 million people took part in the April “Hands Off!” protest in the United States, which far exceeded the 500,000 applications received.

Law enforcement across the country is preparing for possible arrests. President Trump said this week from the Oval Office that protesters would be met “with very great force.” Texas Governor Greg Abbott has already deployed 5,000 National Guard members and 2,000 state troopers to police Saturday’s protests. This decision was made without consulting mayors or local leaders.

The organizers of the No Kings rally in New York expect 50,000 to 100,000 people to march along Fifth Avenue from Bryant Park to Madison Square.

In Los Angeles, No Kings organizers expect about 70,000 participants at City Hall in downtown Los Angeles.

In Atlanta, more than 5,000 participants are expected to rally at the Georgia State Capitol.

In Chicago, at least 30,000 participants are expected.

In Philadelphia, protesters will gather in a city park in the city center.
