Death penalty, renaming and aid to other countries: what decrees Trump will issue first

In the first hours of his presidency, US President Donald Trump will rename the Gulf of Mexico into the Gulf of America. This is reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the New York Post.

The presidential administration will instruct the Secretary of the Interior to change the names, meaning that the Gulf of Mexico and Mount McKinley will be used in federal communications and on official maps.

The draft document states that the return of Mount McKinley is of particular importance to Trump, as its summit is 20,310 feet high, making it the highest peak in North America.

The federal government officially named it Mount McKinley in 1917 in honor of William McKinley, a Republican president who was assassinated 16 years earlier.

McKinley was an inspiration for Trump, both in terms of his tariff policy and in terms of expanding the territory of the United States after the Spanish-American War.

American media also report that Trump plans to sign a decree banning aid to other countries if it contradicts US strategic interests.

The new US president also plans to return the death penalty at the federal level, as well as to officially recognize only 2 genders in the United States – male and female.
