Scandalous accident: MP Ariev’s daughter faces 6 years in prison

The prosecution will ask the court to impose a six-year prison sentence on the daughter of European Solidarity MP Volodymyr Ariev. Yaryna Aryeva, who was also a member of the Kyiv City Council from Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party, is accused of running over a woman on a pedestrian crossing while intoxicated two years ago. This was reported by the Law and Business publication, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
The publication writes that the court has completed the examination of the prosecution’s evidence. According to the indictment, Aryeva, driving a Volkswagen Polo in the extreme left lane of Bandera Avenue in Kyiv, was distracted from driving the vehicle on the road and, creating a danger to traffic, a threat to the life and health of citizens, without giving priority to a pedestrian, drove onto a pedestrian crossing, where she ran over a pedestrian, causing serious bodily harm to the woman.
According to the conclusion of the forensic medical (toxicological) examination, a narcotic substance was found in Aryeva’s body – a metabolite of tetrahydrocannabinol, the newspaper said.
Aryeva is accused under Part 2 of Article 2861 of the Criminal Code (driving while intoxicated, which led to serious consequences).
It is noted that during the last court hearing, all the written evidence of the prosecution was examined, as well as video from the body cameras of the police officers who arrived at the scene of the accident, the victim, witnesses and an expert who conducted a forensic examination of the injuries caused to the victim were interrogated.
According to the newspaper, the prosecutor plans to ask the court to sentence Yaryna Aryeva to 6 years’ imprisonment with a deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 8 years. Such a term excludes the possibility of parole.
