Scandal in Vinnytsia: “Nova Poshta” destroyed the historical mosaic
23 December 15:21The mosaic on the Nova Poshta building, which was replaced by a black “lining”, was destroyed, not just covered. This was reported by Elmira Ettinger, a researcher of modernist architecture and monumental art, on her Instagram page, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
As reported earlier, the researcher said that a black “lining” appeared on the wall of the Nova Poshta branch #19 in Vinnytsia on Ivan Dziuba Street instead of the historical mosaic. The researcher believes that the mosaic could have been a “highlight” of the post office.
“Instead of leaving it open and making it their highlight. What’s even worse is that I don’t know if the mosaic is still under the lining or if it was destroyed. I am in shock. A modern company. Is a sheet of blackness better than a mosaic?”
– the researcher wrote.
According to her, the mosaic in no way violates the law on decommunization and does not contain any prohibited symbols.
“A good, beautiful mosaic, without prohibited symbols. We could have asked local artists to restore a couple of missing smaltins and left it. But no. The black sheet of clapboard is obviously better…”
– the expert added.

“Nova Poshta” wrote in the comments that this issue is already being “dealt with”. However, as it turned out, there is nothing to “deal with” anymore, as the mosaic was not covered, but destroyed. Nova Poshta reported this in the comments to one of its posts.
At the same time, the company claims that the owner of the building allegedly “asked” them to destroy the mosaic. But they suggest that everyone calm down, because the company will make a new mosaic.
Oettinger, in turn, emphasizes that a special permit was required to destroy the previous monument.
“In general, any work outside requires a permit for landscaping. Does the owner have permits and confirmation from the necessary authority that this object has no historical and cultural value and can be destroyed? And was Nova Poshta supposed to carry out such work without approval and expertise?”
– the researcher asks.
She argues that the new mosaic “in the Ukrainian theme” that Nova Poshta is talking about cannot replace the old one. After all, we are talking about the history of Vinnytsia.
“Really? This mosaic depicts students, and for good reason. Inside you can see a Hindu woman in a national costume. The mosaic is located near the medical institute, where traditionally the lion’s share of students are foreigners. They are depicted here. Here is the story! The history of Vinnytsia, which is directly depicted on the mosaic,”
– emphasizes the expert.
So, without any expert discussion, another monument of monumental art was destroyed in Ukraine.
