Scandal in the Rada over ministers and the subsoil deal: Stefanchuk closed the meeting (video)

27 March 13:18

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk has prematurely closed the parliamentary session due to disputes in the hall. The decision was announced by the speaker during the meeting, which was broadcast on his YouTube channel by MP from the European Solidarity faction Oleksiy Honcharenko, Komersant ukrainskyi reports

“Stefanchuk closed the meeting. I will now explain why. We demanded to consider the law of the speaker himself, so that if government officials do not want to come to the Rada at the call of deputies, they will be held accountable. We are tired of the fact that they wipe their feet on the Rada,” Honcharenko said.

During the meeting, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak from the Voice faction said that the United States had submitted a new draft agreement on minerals to Ukraine, which should be ratified by the Verkhovna Rada, but MPs knew nothing about this agreement.

According to him, the US side has proposed a draft agreement on mineral resources, which provides for US control over all Ukrainian subsoil, but there is no mention of security guarantees for Ukraine.

The MP said that ministers disrespected the Parliament by not attending meetings and not providing details of negotiations and the subsoil agreement.

After Zhelezniak’s speech, Iryna Gerashchenko, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction, proposed to summon Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to provide information on the results of the negotiations between Ukraine and the United States and the United States and the aggressor country Russia in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh).

The initiative was supported by only 124 MPs out of the minimum required 226.

“Only 135 MPs supported my proposal to hear Defense Minister Umerov, who participated in the talks in Riyadh, in the parliamentary hall,” she wrote.

After that, the MPs were outraged and demanded that Bill No. 11387 on the responsibility of government officials who failed to appear at the call of MPs be brought to the floor. The draft law provides for administrative liability and the possibility of dismissal.

In particular, this draft law was demanded by: mP from the Voice faction Yaroslav Zheleznyak, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction Artur Herasymov, and MP from the Servant of the People faction Maksym Buzhansky.

Stefanchuk refused to put the draft law to a vote at this meeting and suggested that the mono-majority decide at the conciliation board whether to put the issue to a vote.

Goncharenko added that although the work of the Verkhovna Rada is over for the day, MPs are in no hurry to leave.

“Well, the meeting is closed, the work is over. The MPs are not leaving, they want to continue working, and that’s all there is to it,” Goncharenko said.

It should be noted that tomorrow, on Friday, the Verkhovna Rada is expecting the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga to report to the parliament.
