Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi has suspended Roman Hladkyi, Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces, from his duties. He will be checked by the SBU. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Syrskyi decided to conduct an additional inspection of Hladkyi by the SBU following a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Intelligence and Defence.
Hladkyi will be suspended from duty for the duration of the inspection.
According to DeepState, SSU commander Vadym Sukharevskyi was against the appointment of Gladkyi, who is a suspect in high treason, espionage and corruption.
As previously reported, the media published information that Hladkyi’s wife allegedly has a Russian passport and lived on the peninsula after the occupation of Crimea began, and the military officer’s daughter allegedly participated in sports competitions in Sevastopol under the Russian flag.
This information emerged after Hladkyi was appointed Chief of Staff and First Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Navy in July 2016, and was dismissed from this position in 2018.
At the time, the Ministry of Defence explained that the reason for his dismissal was improper performance of duties and rejected “the assumptions of some media about other reasons for his dismissal”.
A few weeks ago , Hladkyi was appointed chief of staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
The Armed Forces noted that Hladkyi is an officer with many years of experience in the armed forces and has a relevant military education. In 2020-2023, he served as Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the Joint Forces Command and Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Hladkyi received specialised training in Canada, and with the beginning of the large-scale aggression, he performed tasks in various important areas.
In turn, the Security Service of Ukraine told hromadske that it did not conduct a background check on Roman Hladkyi before his appointment as the head of the staff of the Unmanned Systems Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, they clarified that the Service had checked Hladkyi in 2020 in connection with his access to state secrets.
