A cogeneration gas piston unit with an electric capacity of 1 MW has been launched at the Nova Poshta hub in western Ukraine. This was reported by the company, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

They called it the beginning of a new stage in the implementation of the energy independence program, as 6 more such units are currently being installed and are due to appear this year, including in Kyiv.

The company explained that all the plants will operate on the principle of dual generation and produce electricity and heat from natural gas.

How the company is becoming energy independent

Nova Poshta has previously invested a total of UAH 300 million in energy autonomy. This year, it plans to invest another UAH 150 million. More than half of these UAH 450 million are investments in gas generation.

But not only that. At the beginning of the year, Nova Poshta launched its first solar power plant with a capacity of 1 MW. As reported, the project cost UAH 14 million, with a planned payback period of three years.

In March this year, the company launched a second solar power plant. This 700 kW solar power plant appeared at the terminal in Kyiv. The project cost UAH 13.5 million. In the summer, the stations will operate at full capacity and will be able to cover 100% of the terminals’ electricity needs during the day.

In addition, Nova Poshta has fully ensured the uninterrupted operation of its branches and sorting hubs with generators with a total capacity of 36 megawatts.

“We have set ourselves the goal of becoming an energy-independent company. By developing our own renewable energy sources, we can not only provide electricity for our logistics needs, but also reduce the load on the general power grid in times of shortage,” commented Volodymyr Popereshniuk, co-owner of Nova Poshta.

Nova Energia is established as part of the NOVA group

In March this year, the company officially received a license to supply electricity. The decision was made by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities.

This will allow Nova Energia not only to meet the needs of Nova Poshta but also to enter the open electricity market.

As reported, Nova-Energy was founded in 2024 as part of NOVA Group’s strategy to expand its business areas. The company is focused on developing environmentally friendly and sustainable energy solutions. The main goal is to create its own generating capacities to reduce dependence on external suppliers and ensure the reliability of electricity supply.
