Switzerland to allocate $1.6 million for Ukraine’s reconstruction in three areas

The Swiss Federal Council has approved a program of assistance to Ukraine for 2025-2028 in the amount of 1.5 billion Swiss francs ($1.6 billion). This was reported on the website of the Swiss government, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
The funds will be distributed in three areas: economic recovery, public services, and civilian protection.
As for economic recovery, Switzerland is going to finance projects to support small and medium-sized businesses and agricultural enterprises. Part of the funds will also be used to restore and repair urban infrastructure, especially in the frontline regions.
By financing public services, the Swiss government means support for healthcare, education, and social services, as well as energy, public transportation, and water supply.
The Protection of Civilians and Peace cluster includes assistance in humanitarian demining, search and identification of missing persons, as well as documentation and prosecution of violations of international humanitarian law and human rights.

The three-year assistance program is the first phase of a broader 12-year support program for Ukraine with a budget of CHF 5 billion.
In the first phase, the program will be financed by international cooperation loans. In the second phase, from 2029 to 2036, the Federal Council will consider other sources of funding to cover the remaining CHF 3.5 billion.
One-third of the first phase funds (500 million francs) will be spent on recovery projects involving Swiss companies.
