MP Nestor Shufrych will remain in custody until 4 November. The politician, who is suspected of high treason, has had his preventive measure extended, reports Komersant ukrainskyi reports with reference to “Suspilne TV channel.
Prosecutors insisted on detention as a preventive measure because of the risk of absconding, in particular abroad, the risk of destruction and distortion of evidence, and the impact on witnesses.
During the hearing, the OPFL MP complained of feeling unwell and said that it was difficult for him to sit after the operation. An ambulance was called for him, and later the politician lost consciousness.
The MP’s lawyer said that the court’s decision would be appealed.
What is Nestor Shufrych’s condition now?
Despite the rumours of his death in the pre-trial detention centre, Nestor Shufrych is alive, although he has some health problems. This was reported by Tetiana Sapian, Strategic Communications Advisor at the SBI.
“He is alive, he will be fine. Perhaps, we assess this as a reaction to stress, because this week a case of high treason against the current MP and his assistant was sent to court. They are accused of financing actions taken with the aim of forcibly changing and overthrowing the constitutional order, seizing state power and changing the boundaries of the territory and state border of Ukraine. And, in addition, the MP is also accused of treason,” said Sapyan.
Nestor Shufrych himself also commented on his health condition, talking to journalists in the courtroom.
“The last thing I would like to comment on is my health. But, as you can see, I have not been operated on for eight months. The operation has already become impossible. What could have been avoided happened. By the way, we consider such actions to be torture,” Shufrich said.
