Shakhtar football club has announced the creation of a football team for servicemen with disabilities who were injured and amputated during the war, according to

According to Shakhtar CEO Sergey Palkin, there are more than 50,000 servicemen in Ukraine who suffered amputations during the war. Thus, the club intends to create all the necessary conditions for the integration of these people and return them to active life as far as possible.

“Ukrainian soldiers, who sacrificed their health to defend the country from the enemy, need the support of society today more than ever. “Shakhtar is the first UPL club to create a team for amputees. When organising the new team, we will rely on the international practice of adaptive football,”

At the first stage, Shakhtar plans to recruit 20 players and a coach who will train regularly in Kyiv and the region. In the future, the team will participate in various competitions, including European ones.
