The secret of Russian Tornados is revealed: their shells contain Western parts
3 March 10:57
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has released data on the use of foreign components in guided missiles of the Russian Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system, Komersant ukrainskyi reports
In the examined samples of guided missiles of the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system used by the aggressor state of Russia against Ukraine, the simultaneous use of two fiber-optic gyroscopes was revealed:
- TIUS500, manufactured by the Russian LLC “SPC “OPTOLINK”.
- The gyroscope is foreign-made, without manufacturer’s markings, but with seals in Chinese. It has a visual resemblance to AgileLight devices from the Chinese company BWSENSING.
The simultaneous use of two such gyroscopes increases the accuracy of target destruction, as they provide more accurate information about the position of the projectile in space.
Western electronics in Russian systems
The GUR’s investigation also revealed that the components of these projectiles contain electronic chips made in the
- USA – Altera Cyclone, Analog Devices, National Semiconductor, Maxim Integrated
- China – Panwoo Equipment Consulting, Mornsun
- Switzerland – STMicroelectronics
- Great Britain – Golledge Electronics
These components play a key role in guiding missiles and increasing their effectiveness.
Sanctions do not stop Russia
The fact that the Russian military uses foreign components shows that Russia continues to find ways to circumvent sanctions. DIU data confirm that technologies from the West and China continue to enter Russia’s military-industrial complex, which directly affects the effectiveness of its weapons.
The full list of detected foreign components and their photos have already been published on the War&Sanctions portal, which contains more than 18,000 sanctioned items in ten sections.
