SBU detains Deripaska’s Ukrainian accomplices who supplied raw materials for Iskanders

The Security Service of Ukraine has detained two Ukrainian accomplices of Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, who are allegedly involved in financing Russian military aggression. This was reported by the SBU press service, according to

The SBU reports that it has finally collected evidence against the Russian oligarch and his top managers in Ukraine. This resulted in an absentee notice of suspicion to the oligarch himself and the detention of two of his managers.

“We are talking, in particular, about the director of the Hlukhiv Quartzite Quarry mining company and the curator of this institution from the Russian oligarch: a citizen of Ukraine who received a residence permit in Russia in 2021. According to the investigation, these two defendants helped a businessman from Russia to appropriate the quarry’s production facilities in 2012, despite the existing ban on their sale,”

– the service said.

Since then, and before the full-scale invasion, the company has been supplying rock materials to Russia, which were used there to produce ballistic missiles (such as Iskander), drones and radar systems.

The company’s director is accused under Part 3 of Article 209 (legalisation (laundering) of the proceeds of crime committed by an organised group), Part 2 of Article 28, Part 4 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code (aiding and abetting in the financing of actions committed with the aim of violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or seizure of state power, change of the boundaries of the territory or state border of Ukraine). He faces up to 15 years in prison.

His curator is accused under Part 5 of Article 191 (misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office committed by an organised group) and Part 3 of Article 209 (legalisation (laundering) of the proceeds of crime) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He could be imprisoned for up to 12 years.

Deripaska himself is suspected of the violation:

  • ч. 3 of Article 27, Part 5 of Article 191 (organisation of misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office committed by an organised group);
  • ч. 3, Art. 27, Art. 209 (organisation of legalisation (laundering) of the proceeds of crime);
  • ч. 3 of Article 27, part 2 of Article 28, part 4 of Article 110-2 (organisation of financing of actions committed with the aim of violent change or overthrow of the constitutional order or seizure of state power, change of the boundaries of the territory or state border of Ukraine).

The maximum sentence he can receive under these articles is 12 years in prison.

Oleg Deripaska is a Russian oligarch, billionaire, owner of the Basic Element holding, head of the Russian Aluminium, Siberian Aluminium and Sayanogorsk Aluminium Plant. In 2008, his fortune was estimated at $28 billion, but in 2020 it was only $2.3 billion. Since April 2018, he has been under US sanctions, and since 2022, he has been under sanctions from other Western countries due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In 2022, he called for peace and early peace talks with Ukraine.
