SBU exposes deputy head of Zaporizzhya regional council on corruption charges

The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau have dismantled a large-scale corruption scheme involving the leadership of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council, the

Security services caught the deputy chairman of the regional council, his assistant and a local deputy on bribery.

The officials tried to bribe the director of a regional medical institution. In return, he was supposed to facilitate the victory of predetermined companies in medical procurement, as well as conduct financial transactions in the interests of financial institutions.

Law enforcement officers caught all three officials red-handed. Searches are ongoing at the suspects’ places of work and residence.

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated under Part 4 Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (offering, promising or giving an unlawful benefit to an official), the issue of serving the officials a notice of suspicion is being settled.

The offenders face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
