The Security Service of Ukraine has launched a criminal investigation into the alleged leak of information from a closed session of the Verkhovna Rada, which was attended by the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov. This was reported by MP Ihor Kostenko in the program “Topic with Moseychuk”, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
According to media reports, the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov spoke about critical threats to the state.
Kostenko emphasized that such incidents are unacceptable, as government officials must clearly understand what information is subject to disclosure and what is not.
“We are talking about national security and human lives. It is right that the SBU has launched a criminal investigation. It is important to establish all the circumstances so that such situations do not happen again,” Kostenko said.
If those responsible for disclosing confidential information are found, they will be held accountable.
“At the very least, they will be restricted from accessing state secrets. And this is right. In reality, this must be countered. This is also a crime that, of course, must be punished,” Kostenko summarized.
It should be noted that the media recently reported that Budanov warned MPs about the threat to Ukraine’s existence. He allegedly said that if there are no negotiations by the summer, then “very dangerous processes for the very existence of Ukraine may be launched.”
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that the quote allegedly made by the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, during a closed session of the Verkhovna Rada was false.
The ministry called on journalists and the public to refrain from spreading rumors and unverified information, especially regarding defense in war.
“Some politicians, unfortunately, can distort information in their own interests, using journalists for this purpose,” the statement said.
The DIU also emphasized that the publication of details from classified meetings involving the state leadership poses a threat to Ukraine’s security and can be used by the enemy to achieve its goals.
