SBU: Russian agents wanted to blow up deputies of Kamianets-Podilskyi city council in Khmelnytskyi region

The Security Service’s counterintelligence detained two FSB agents who were preparing explosives to organize terrorist attacks against 8 deputies of the Kamyanets-Podilsky City Council.

This was reported by the SBU and the Khmelnytsky Regional Prosecutor‘s Office, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

According to the investigation, one of the perpetrators was a 24-year-old local drug addict who was looking for money “for a dose” on Telegram channels. There, she was recruited by a Russian intelligence officer and given a “test” task to set fire to three administrative buildings of village councils in the region.

To do this, the girl engaged her 57-year-old partner, who accompanied the agent to the necessary facilities as a driver.

What does the prosecutor’s office say?

According to the prosecutor’s office, the suspects collected and passed on to the Russians data about government agencies and officials for money, filmed the premises of the city council and the shopping center, and provided information about the personal cars of local government officials.

They then received instructions from the occupiers on how to make an improvised explosive device, as well as money to purchase explosive components and rent a safe house.

According to the investigation, the Russian agents were supposed to install deputy cars and conduct reconnaissance near them to plant explosives. With these explosions, the Russians planned to destabilize the socio-political situation in the region and spread panic among local residents.

The defendants were served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28, Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – high treason committed under martial law by a group of people by prior conspiracy.

They are currently in custody without the right to be released on bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
