The construction of the power grid from the seized Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is nearing completion, with only a few weeks left before the plant is fully connected to the Russian power grid. This was announced by the head of the Center for Occupation Studies, Petro Andriushchenko, who released new data on construction monitoring, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the expert, the occupiers continue to build a main power line through the Mariupol region. In particular, a distribution center with a compressor station was built at the site with coordinates 47°08’55.7 “N 37°18’40.0 “E from February to May.
At the other site (47°02’27.2 “N 37°05’17.5 “E), grid connection works are in their final stages. Satellite images as of the end of April show that the construction is in its final phase.
“Taking into account the plans for modernization of Kherson region in particular, as we have mentioned earlier, it seems that Zaporizhzhia NPP is, if not already included in the Russian energy system, then only a matter of weeks away,”
– andriushchenko noted.
The expert also expressed concern about the reaction of the Ukrainian authorities to these processes.
“Once again, unfortunately, we must emphasize the complete disregard for this process by the Ukrainian government and the media. It is this neglect that allows the Russians to do what they are doing with impunity,”
– emphasized the head of the Center for Occupation Studies.

ZNPP
Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe and the third largest in the world by total capacity. Located in the Zaporizhzhia region near the city of Enerhodar, it consists of six nuclear power units of 1 GW each. Its construction began in 1981, and the first unit was commissioned in 1984. The last unit, the sixth, was commissioned in 1995.
ZNPP annually produced about 40 billion kWh of electricity, which was about 20% of Ukraine’s total power generation. It is also the first nuclear power plant in the country to have a dry spent fuel storage facility.
The Russian army seized ZNPP on the night of March 4, 2022, after shelling the nuclear facility. Russia has also occupied the city of Enerhodar, near which the nuclear power plant is located.
Since the beginning of the Russian occupation, Zaporizhzhia NPP has experienced eight full blackouts and one partial blackout, with the launch of emergency diesel generators and safety systems. According to Energoatom, their failure threatens to cause an emergency.
The last time the plant faced a blackout was on August 23 last year.
