Starting July 1, Russia is raising electricity tariffs for its own population by almost 13%, while gradually canceling Tajikistan’s debt to Sangtuda Hydroelectric Power Plant-1 in the amount of 25.3 billion rubles (over $312 million). This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The agreement on the write-off was signed by the energy ministers of the two countries – Sergei Tsiviliev (Russia) and Daler Juma (Tajikistan).

The CPA emphasized that the Kremlin is once again shifting the financial burden of the war and sanctions onto its citizens, while generously writing off billions of dollars in debt to foreign partners. Such steps are not charity, but a means of maintaining political influence and dependence on other countries.

This is not the first such step by Russia: earlier it postponed payments on Belarus’ debts for seven years.

It is also reported that Moscow promised to write off debts to a number of countries in exchange for participation in the Victory Parade on May 9, including Tajikistan.
