In its internal planning for 2025, Russian state-owned gas giant Gazprom assumes that after December 31, gas will no longer be supplied to Europe through Ukraine. This is stated in a Reuters article, according to Komersant ukrainskyi.

It is known that Ukraine is considering the possibility of breaking the transit agreement, which has been an important source of income for the country for half a century. However, Russia has expressed its readiness to continue gas transit through Ukraine.

As a result of the war with Ukraine, the aggressor state has lost its European customers, as the EU tries to reduce its dependence on Russian gas supplies. The explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline also led to these losses. According to media sources, Russia expects to reduce gas exports to Europe by a fifth in 2025, compared to current volumes.

Despite this, Russian gas exports to Turkey will not decrease. “Gazprom already supplies gas to Turkey through the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream pipelines. Gas supplies to China will also increase thanks to the Power of Siberia pipeline.

It is worth noting that before the war, most of Russia’s gas reached Europe through Ukraine. But now this flow has become smaller. In 2023, only 8% of the peak flows of Russian gas transit through Ukraine were in operation. And the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod transit pipeline, which exports gas from Russia through Ukraine to Slovakia, is partially under the control of the Ukrainian armed forces, which have entered the city of Sudzha (Russia).
