Russians hit a bulk carrier with wheat for Egypt in the Black Sea with a missile. This was reported on 12 September was announced ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports Komersant ukrainskyi.
“Today’s attack in the Black Sea was on an ordinary civilian vessel immediately after leaving Ukrainian territorial waters. According to preliminary data, fortunately, there were no casualties,” the Ukrainian leader said in a statement on his official Telegram channel.
Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is one of the key global contributors to food security. Internal stability and the lives of dozens of countries in different parts of the world depend on the normal and unhindered operation of the export food corridor.
“We will continue to do everything we can to protect our ports, our Black Sea and food supplies to the global market. We expect the world to respond. Wheat and food security should never be a target for missiles,” Zelensky added.
Last year, Russia withdrew from a UN-brokered agreement that guaranteed safe passage for Ukrainian agricultural exports through the Black Sea, but Kyiv cut a sea corridor that allows trade to continue.
