If a referendum on the declaration of Ukraine’s state independence were held these days, 85% of the population would vote for the sovereignty of our country. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to sociological data of a poll conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with the Razumkov Centre sociological service.
Both young people (85 per cent) and the oldest generation aged 60 and over (83 per cent), as well as residents of both cities (86 per cent) and rural areas (84.5 per cent) would vote for Ukraine’s independence.
Only 2% of citizens opposed the declaration of independence. And 8% of Ukrainians said they would not participate in the referendum at all.
The highest number of those who would support independence is in the West of our country (93%), but in the Centre 87% would vote so, in the East – 78% and in the South – 72%. Only 2% of respondents in the country as a whole would be against it, with the number of such people critically less than 1% in the West and about 4% in the East.
