Trump’s adviser says Ukraine’s accession to NATO is “off the table”

US National Security Advisor Michael Volz has said that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is not on the table.
He said this on Fox News, answering a question about whether Kyiv’s accession to the alliance is still on the table, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.
“It is not on the table. I don’t see the United States supporting Ukraine’s accession to NATO, which would actually oblige American troops to intervene immediately. In the context of Article 5, this would mean that U.S. troops would be directly involved in the defense of Ukraine,” Volz emphasized.
He also emphasized that security guarantees for “Ukraine’s future” from European countries is another issue, and the White House wants Europe, particularly France and the United Kingdom, to be actively involved.
“We fully support the fact that France, the United Kingdom and other European countries are ready to provide strong security guarantees. We have been calling for many years for Europe to take greater responsibility for its own defense,” the Trump adviser said.
on February 23, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to resign if it meant peace for Ukraine or its accession to NATO.
On the same day, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing statements by European officials, that the British and French authorities were developing a plan to deploy up to 30,000 European peacekeeping troops to Ukraine with a “safety net” from the United States – if official Kyiv and the aggressor country of Russia reached a ceasefire agreement.
