New Director General of Ukroboronprom appointed: what is known about Oleh Huliak

Oleh Hulyak has been appointed the new CEO of the Ukrainian Defence Industry (Ukroboronprom). This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the company’s press service.
It is stated that the relevant decision was approved by the supervisory board of the joint-stock company. This was preceded by a search and evaluation of candidates conducted by the Ukrainian representative office of Odgers Berndtson, an international company specialising in the selection of senior executives.
“I am grateful for the trust to lead Ukroboronprom. Our work is crucial for achieving victory over the enemy. There is a lot of work, important tasks and new challenges ahead. However, I am confident that together with our team we will achieve the necessary results,” said UOP CEO Oleh Hulyak.
It is noted that more than 20 people applied for the position of UOP CEO, of which three candidates were shortlisted. The Supervisory Board held a final interview with them and decided on the candidate.
“Oleg Gulyak is well aware of the urgent needs of the army and is an experienced leader. The main tasks he faces now are to increase production volumes further, complete the reform of the state-owned defence industry and build an effective anti-corruption infrastructure,” said German Smetanin, Minister for Strategic Industries.
Representatives of the US, UK and German embassies were involved in the interviews with the shortlisted candidates.
“It is extremely important for us that the largest state-owned defence company is headed by a person who has experience in the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and as the head of logistics of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is a professional who has a good understanding of what the Ukrainian Defence Forces need. He is a true leader: proactive, responsible and effective. That is why we decided to appoint Oleh Huliak as the company’s CEO,” said David Lomdzharia, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Ukroboronprom.
What is known about Oleh Huliak

Oleg Gulyak has been in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 1993.
He was born on 8 January 1972 in Novyi Buh, Mykolaiv region. Gulyak graduated from the Novosibirsk Higher Military Command School.
He began his military career as a deputy commander of a reconnaissance company of an airmobile division. He was the commander of the 72nd separate mechanised battalion of the 7th separate mechanised brigade of the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent in Iraq, the chief of the 16th separate mechanised brigade, the commander of the 95th separate airmobile brigade, the chief of the Odesa Military Academy and the deputy commander of the Anti-Terrorist Operation Forces.
He participated in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Huliak has been the head of the Armed Forces Logistics since 2021.
on 29 February 2024, he was dismissed from the post of Commander of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since 1 July 2024, he has held the position of Advisor to the Director General for Military Cooperation at the Ukrainian Defence Industry Joint Stock Company.
On 5 September 2024, Gulyak was appointed Acting Director General of Ukroboronprom
Gulyak was awarded the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine” and the medal “For Conscientious Service” of the I and II degrees, as well as the “Badge of Honour”.
