President imposes sanctions against persons involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to impose personal sanctions against those involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children. This was announced by the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

Yermak noted that personal sanctions were imposed against 46 individuals and 9 legal entities. According to him, among those involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children are collaborators in the temporarily occupied territories, officials from the regions of the aggressor country of Russia, and those involved in deportations.

The sanctions also apply to organizers of forced “re-education” of children, members of paramilitary children’s and youth movements such as the “Unarmy”, as well as institutions where they tried to turn Ukrainian children “into obedient soldiers of the Russian regime”.

“These are the people who, with the hands of the Kremlin, are stealing from children their right to family, freedom and national identity. The state counteracts these crimes not only diplomatically but also through sanctions mechanisms. Abduction of Ukrainian children is a war crime,” Yermak wrote.

The relevant decree was published on the President’s website on June 10.

The decree provides for the entry into force of sanctions with four annexes, one of which contains a list of legal entities.

The list includes:

  • artek children’s camp registered in Russia in the occupied Crimea
  • the regional branch of the All-Russian public and state organization “Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Air Force and Navy of the City of Sevastopol” (DOSAAF) in Sevastopol
  • autonomous non-profit organization of additional professional education “Maritime Innovation Center of the regional branch of the All-Russian public and state organization “Voluntary Society for Assistance to the Army, Aviation and Navy of Russia of Sevastopol”
  • all-Russian public and state movement of children and youth “Movement of the First” in Moscow
  • a regional branch of the “First Movement” registered in the occupied Genichesk, Kherson region
  • the organization “Center for Humanitarian and Cultural Initiatives “Rassvet”, Moscow
  • higher education institution “Melitopol State University” in occupied Melitopol
  • organization “Russian Society “Znanie”, Moscow
  • all-Russian public organization of marines “Typhoon”, Moscow.

In addition, sanctions were imposed against 46 individuals, including the head of the Russian President’s Department for Public Projects, Sergei Novikov, and a member of the House of Representatives of Belarus, Dmitry Shevtsov.

The decision envisages both economic and other restrictive measures against these entities, including asset freezes, restrictions on trade operations, and suspension of economic and financial obligations.

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the decree.
