Canadian Prime Minister invites Zelenskyy to G7 summit

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to take part in the Group of Seven summit to be held in June 2025. This was announced by a spokesperson for the Canadian Foreign Ministry, Komersant ukrainskyi reports citing Le journal de Quebec.
Canada, which holds the G7 presidency this year, will host the summit on June 15-17.
The spokesperson said that Carney, who took office as prime minister of Canada the day before, spoke with Zelenskyy and “invited him to the G7 summit in June in Alberta.”
After the conversation, Zelenskiy said he had a “good conversation with Mr. Carney.” According to him, the prime minister shared his vision of how to increase sanctions against Moscow. In particular, they talked about total sanctions against the shadow tanker fleet and the banking sector.
For his part, the new Prime Minister of Canada reiterated that his country “strongly supports Ukraine’s fight for freedom against Russian aggression.”
The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Canada agreed to interact in different formats and at different levels to make cooperation even more substantive and practical.
They also discussed the development of bilateral relations. Canada is interested in military-industrial and defense cooperation. The Head of State noted that during the war, Ukraine had gained a lot of experience in the production of electronic warfare, long-range missiles and drones and was ready for joint production.
