6 December 09:04

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will begin teaching at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School. This was reported by the center and confirmed by Kuleba himself. In a commentary to BBC Ukraine, the diplomat also noted that he would live in Ukraine, Komersant ukrainskyi reports.

Working conditions

The ex-minister noted that it is only a matter of a few lectures per semester. At the Belfer Center, Kuleba will focus on topics that combine diplomacy, security, and sustainability. His work will focus on developing strategies to counter autocracy and strengthen democratic institutions.

In addition to teaching, he will work with Harvard Kennedy School students, faculty, and fellows through lectures, seminars, and mentoring.

Center Director Megan O’Sullivan believes that Kuleba’s experience will inspire students:

“His presence will inspire our students and will be a vital resource for our academic community.”

The center emphasizes that Kuleba gained international recognition during the Russian invasion as one of the most influential diplomats of his generation and a global defender of democracy.

Place of residence

At the same time, Kuleba will remain living in Ukraine.

“I will continue to live in Ukraine and I am not going to leave anywhere,”

– the former minister emphasized.

He explained that the current legislation allows diplomats in the status of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to cross the border even during mobilization.

“I do not violate anything and always return to Ukraine,”

– Kuleba added.

Professional career

Dmytro Kuleba served as Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration in 2019-2020, and from March 2020 to September 2024 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

During his tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he focused his efforts on building an international coalition of support for Ukraine, imposing sanctions against Russia, launching EU accession negotiations, and intensifying cooperation with the countries of the Global South.

The former minister was accompanied by leading diplomats of the world, including the head of the US State Department, the German Foreign Minister, and the EU’s chief diplomat, who expressed gratitude for his cooperation.

Many experts believe that Kuleba’s success was due to his image as a sophisticated intellectual and master of communications. For example, The Economist called him a “nerdy diplomat” who looks like “Harry Potter with round glasses.”

Kuleba is currently in Toronto, where he is meeting with the Ukrainian community “to strengthen support for Ukraine.”
