Intelligence warning: Ukrainians are advised not to travel to the Middle East

21 March 04:00

The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (SZRU) warns citizens about the growing risks of staying in the Middle East. This is due to the resumption of hostilities between Israel and the militants of the Hamas terrorist group. This was reported by Komersant ukrainskyi with reference to the press service of the Foreign Intelligence of Ukraine.

Escalation of the conflict: what is happening?

on March 18, Israel launched massive air strikes on the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and southern Syria, officially launching a military operation called “The Power and the Sword.” According to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, this operation will not be short-lived:

“This is not a one-day attack. We will continue the military operation,” he said.

The intensification of hostilities leads to an aggravation of the security situation in the entire region.

Truce in the Gaza Strip and its violation

In January, Israel and Hamas signed a ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement. According to the agreement, Israel was to gradually withdraw its troops from most of the Gaza Strip, while maintaining control over the buffer zone to ensure the security of its borders.

However, despite the official ceasefire, new clashes and armed provocations periodically erupted.

Since February, negotiations between Israel and Hamas on the second phase of the ceasefire have been ongoing, but they have reached a deadlock. The Israeli side, trying to increase pressure on the militants, stopped supplying electricity to the Gaza Strip. In response, terrorists began to intensify attacks, which eventually led to another escalation.

Where is it dangerous to be?

The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine recommends that citizens refrain from traveling to the following countries:

  • Gaza Strip
  • Israel
  • Syria
  • Lebanon
  • Other countries in the Middle East where instability may be observed

Why is it important?

The risks to civilians increase in the context of active hostilities:

  • Danger of air strikes and terrorist attacks
  • Possible difficulties with evacuation in case of escalation of the situation
  • Closure of borders and airports in conflict zones

Ukrainians who are already in these countries are advised to be cautious, follow official warnings from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and respond promptly to any changes in the security situation.
