“The US warning about the missile threat should be taken seriously. This is intelligence data,” Vladyslav Selezniov
20 November 09:56The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine has called on American citizens in the country to be vigilant due to the threat of possible massive air attacks by Russia today, November 20. This warning has caused concern among Ukrainians and experts, as such messages from the US embassy are rare. Military expert Vladyslav Selezniov commented in an exclusive interview with Komersant ukrainskyi on why such caution on the part of the United States is justified right now.
According to Selezniov, the threat of a large-scale missile attack is not unexpected, at least given that Russia has accumulated enough missiles for this.
“Why are we surprised? There are several Kalibr carrier ships in the Black Sea right now. They have been hanging around since yesterday. Obviously, they have the resources to launch a missile attack. It is a fact that they have accumulated these missiles in the absence of large-scale attacks for almost two months. Did they have time during these three days [after the previous shelling] to reload the TU-95 aircraft with missiles? Of course they did,”
– the expert notes.
He explains that weather conditions and the maximum load on the energy infrastructure create a favorable moment for attacks:
“The Russians use the tactic of sneak attacks. They try to do it at the moment when we are most vulnerable. Weather conditions, the maximum load on our energy infrastructure are a great opportunity for the Russians to strike at us. Therefore, an attack can happen at any time.”

Selezniov also draws attention to how Russia is looking for opportunities to increase the number of missiles:
“They are looking for any opportunity to create as many missiles as possible by combining the incompatible. They attach an engine from an ancient X-55 rocket to the X-101 missile, just to make it fly – that’s a fact,” he says,
– he said.
According to the expert, the statement of the American Embassy has a real basis, as it is based on their intelligence data.
“They have quite powerful intelligence, so they do not make empty statements,”
– Mr. Selezniov emphasized.
Thus, the situation remains tense, and the likelihood of another massive Russian attack remains high.
As reported by , on November 17, 2023, Russia carried out the most massive missile attack on Ukraine during the entire period of the full-scale war, firing 127 cruise, ballistic and supersonic missiles and 109 attack drones. DTEK reported serious damage to its thermal power plants. The situation in Odesa and Odesa region was the most difficult: on the night of July 18, the city was partially without electricity and water. Since July 18, Ukraine has reintroduced power outage schedules.
