Police warn of changes to speed limits on all roads in Ukraine
16 October 09:41From 1 November, the speed limit on the roads of all Ukrainian cities will change. The maximum permitted speed will be 50 km/h, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshitsky said during a telethon, Komersant Ukrainian reports
“In some cities of our country, in particular Kyiv and Dnipro, signs of a higher speed limit were installed on those road sections where both road conditions and road safety allow it. That is, 80 km/h for the summer period. This period is now coming to an end, and from 1 November, these signs will be changed to standard signs, i.e. the speed limit will be 50 km/h,” Biloshytskyi said.
He added that this means that the rules do not actually change, but the winter period begins, which does not provide for other speed limits.
Biloshitsky noted that more than 300 cameras record the speed limit on the roads. In addition, about 200 TruCAM devices, which allow manual speeding detection, are used by patrol police officers.
“It is this comprehensive method that helps to control drivers’ compliance with the speed limit. The police bring millions of violators to justice every year, but speeding remains a pressing problem. It is necessary not only to achieve results through control, but also to amend legislation by introducing effective, efficient mechanisms. For example, penalty points for numerous traffic violations. After all, there are violators who commit violations 25 times a year and have numerous fines,” said the First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department of Ukraine.
The law enforcement officer also provided a number of tips for drivers and pedestrians on how to prepare for the winter period and protect themselves from the dangerous consequences of disregarding traffic rules.
