According to Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, the issue of abandoned cars on the streets is a security issue.

“We are living in a time of war and we do not know what may be in these cars. Therefore, it is now a safety issue,” said Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.

Oleh Zabarylo, Head of the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure at the Lviv City Council, said that the city will first take an inventory of all abandoned and neglected vehicles. This will be done by employees of district administrations. And then they will launch a mechanism to find and inform the owners.

Thus, from the moment such a car is found, the owner will have 30 days to pick it up. In particular, a sticker with the relevant warning will be placed on the car. If the car is not removed after a second inspection of the territory, it may be moved. The decision will be made by a specially created commission.

Such cars will be stored on impound lots for up to 6 months. If the owner does not come forward during this time, the police have the right to sell the car. If the owner does not come forward within three years, the proceeds will be transferred to the community, minus the amount spent on storage and sale of the car.
